In 1848, the big news about gold began to spread through newspapers and even James K. Polk (PBS). The new was eventually spread to international land as well. Once that happened, boats that had many ecstatic people were filling the ocean, many religions, a new government, and a blueprint from many who got rich.
Anglo-American & Chinese Miners
Race: -Many new faces arrived at the Gold Rush, such as the Chinese -In 1850, there were about 660 Chinese -In 1860, there were about 35000 Chinese -There were also about 155000 Anglo-Americans mining -Unfortunately, many Native Americans were killed or put on reservations
Religion: -Samuel Brannan brought Mormonism to America -"In every major gold mining town -- Weaverville, Sacremento, Downieville and Marysville -- the Chinese miners had their houses of worship" (Ling-chi Wang). -Gold Rush also brought other religions such as Judaism

Government: -California became a state in 1850 -Americans took California territory by Mexican-American War -California became key part in Civil War -California had the most people that enlisted in the Civil War
Economy: -Stephen Chapin Davis and his brother became rich by selling household goods in a store -Levi Strauss also became rich by selling durable pants (his company today is called "Levi's") -Many small businesses such as these became successful during the Gold Rush
